Equipment model; Anchor model

Scale: Unknown. A model depicting part of the process of manufacturing a common anchor, made entirely in steel. The model shows how a shank and its ring are formed. The shank is shown virtually complete, its surface being finished and polished apart from the bottom-most section where it joins the crown, which is blackened and pitted. On either side of this bottom-most section, two joints have been forged which travel diagonally from upper left to lower right across the shank. The shank itself is round in section, apart from the uppermost part, where it becomes square in section. Two rectangular protuberances either side of the square section indicate the position of the stock. The shank terminates in a faceted top just below which the ring passes. ‘1’, ‘3’, ‘4’, ‘5’, ‘8’ are inscribed on the model.
