Ordnance model; Mortar model
Scale: 1:12. Model of a suspended and elevating 13 inch mortar (circa 1855). The mortar itself is turned in wood, painted black and mounted in a metal carriage, which can be both raised and lowered horizontally for storage and firing. A slide adjustment on the elevation is operated using hand spikes on the circular wheels on either side of the carriage. The whole model is mounted on its original turned wooden base, which has been stained and varnished. A brass maker's plaque on the base reads "Suspended & elevating 13 inch mortar T. Truscott C.E. R.N. H. M. Yacht Fairy, 1855."
