Ordnance model; Gun model
Scale: Unknown. Wooden model of a large gun on a sea service carriage with wooden trucks that have been secured to the axles with metal pins. The gun has been turned from wood. The carriage has been inscribed on its left-hand face 'Woolwich Arsenal Oct 1850 Col Colquhoun' and on its right-hand face "No.90 Div B CLASS 7". Woolwich Arsenal had, from its 16th century origins, included storage for gun carriages and later manufactured them in both wood and metal. The importance of this aspect of artillery was recognized in 1803 when the carriage works were formally renamed the Royal Carriage Department. This item was presumably made there.
