HMS Victory (1765); Warship; First rate 100 gun

Scale:Unknown. Sectional model depicting the midship upper gun deck of HMS Victory (1765), a first rate 100-gun warship. The model is constructed plank on frame and finished in a natural varnished wood. The model illustrates a section of the hull which includes a single gunport surrounded by planking both externally and internally, a section of the unplanked deck with the beams, knees, carlings and ledges exposed, hatch coambing and a laid deck with fitted treenails. There is also a fully equipped cannon, turned in brass and finished in a bronze/black colour, mounted on a four-wheeled wooden carriage complete with rope rigging. Other equipment includes a wooden bucket with brass strapping, a flexible rope rammer/sponger, a pair of wooden spikes, 19 out of 23 metal shot mounted on the hatch garlands and hanging in metal supports from the deck beam is a wormer, sponger and rammer.
