Mortar
Scale: About 1:4. A model of a mortar (1866), with revolving mortar bed, made entirely in wood with brass fittings. The mortar bed is made of solid planks of mahogany stained a dark brown finish. It has a convex back and is held together using brass plates through which pass brass bolts, secured with hexagonal brass nuts. The bed rests on a circular mahogany turntable enabling it to turn on its axis. The mortar is made from a solid block of turned wood, stained or painted black and polished. The tompion is turned from a solid piece of mahogany and has a brass D-ring attached to the top. The mortar is seated in the bed at an angle of about 45' but can be elevated.
