Sectional model; Component model

Scale: Unknown. Model of a ship's beam comprising of two timbers connected by a scarph joint amidships made entirely of oak which has then been stained a dark brown. The beam is square in section at either end and tapers towards a rectangular section amidships. The underside of the beam has been scored to form a moulding and is also complete with a wooden pad which is slotted to recieve a removable deck pillar. At either end of the beam are two narrow slots probably used to connect it to a hanging knee or similar feature on the ship's hull.
Plaque inscribed 'Model for making ships beams with a great? round up from straight timber with horizontal scarph invented and presented by W Hookey Iate Deptford Yard'.
