Balmoral 16/21 (1986); Semi-submersible floating production vessel

Scale: Unknown. A scenic full hull model of a GVA 5000 type semi submersible floating production vessel installed in the Balmoral oilfield, North Sea (Block 16/21). The vessel is decked, equipped, and rigged. Below the vessel the various components used for extracting oil from the wellhead on the seabed and the pipes for sending it ashore are shown. The sea surface has been cut away on three sides of the vessel to allow viewing of the various components underwater. The vessel is painted a dark blue/black underwater, while the upperworks are bright orange with grey decks and white accommodation blocks. Centrally there is a frame and a red and white tower with the company name "Sun" in blue on all four sides. There are three large cranes for loading and unloading equipment from supply vessels together with a single helicopter and pad which has been painted green and yellow allowing for the safe and quick transportation of personal. Other notable features include a wind sock, scale figures, six totally enclosed lifeboats and a selection of navigational equipment painted a black and yellow checkered pattern. There is also a single waterline model of a supply vessel unloading or loading steel beams with two crew on deck. The underside of the vessel consists of four circular pillars mounted on two longitudinal flat hulls inscribed with "GVA 5000", with enclosed pivoting propellers at either end. There is a plaque inscribed: "Balmoral- 16/21" and "Sun". The helicopter pad is inscribed: "Balmoral-16/21". The whole model is mounted within a perspex, aluminium and wooden display case.
