Butterfield dial
Silver pocket sundial and compass with adjustable dial, in 8-sided shagreen case. The hinged gnomon is supported by birds. On the back is a list of cities and towns with their latitudes. On a paper inside the lid 'August 16th 1796 from Captain Sucklin to Horatio Nelson'. Nelson's uncle - Captain Maurice Suckling died in 1778. No other Captain Sucklings were in the British navy in 1796.
