Oniro; Passenger vessel; Canoe; Outrigger canoe
Scale: Unknown. A model of an outrigger canoe from Kiritimati (Christmas) Island, made entirely in an exotic hardwood with metal fittings. There is a single stayed gunter rigged foremast, forward of amidships, with a mainsail and staysail, and a mizzen mast. It is decked fore and aft, with a transverse camber. There is an extreme rake to the sternpost and the boat is fitted with a working plain plate centreboard. The model is equipped with two oars and a pennant (currently missing). The outrigger appears to be missing. The model is mounted on a polished hardwood base with a brass plate inscribed 'Oniro'.
