Naval telescope
This achromatic telescope is typical of those used on board ship for making general observations in the 19th century. It has a leather-covered tapering barrel and a single brass draw tube, on which is engraved the maker's name, 'Dollond London'. The other brass fittings include a pivoted eyepiece cover, an objective lens cap and a sliding sun shade. The objective lens is now broken. The telescope once belonged to Captain Sir William Peel (1824–1858).
