Naval telescope
This achromatic telescope has a tapering barrel and a single brass draw tube. The brass fittings include a sliding sun shade and a sliding eyepiece cover, of which the slide is missing. The objective lens cap is also missing. The barrel was once covered with leather, but the cover is now missing, except for a leather handle that was attached to it. The maker's name is inscribed on the draw tube as 'P. Frith, London', presumably Peter Frith who worked in London in the 1830s.
