Fishing vessel

Scale: Unknown. A full hull model of a fishing vessel, used off the Catalan coast of Spain. The whole model is finished in a natural varnished wood. The double ended hull is made in bread and butter construction which has been carved externally and is solid internally up to the level of the deck. Above the wale the planks and deck have been applied by deck beams and frames internally and by knees externally above the deck which support large washstrakes. The deck itself is made from a single piece of wood and has the individually scored planks running longitudinally. At the bow the stem rises vertically at right angles to the keel and protrudes above the gunwale capping and is complete with a metal keel band. There is also a circular hole running through the gunwale on the starboard side of the stem which suggests that the vessel may have been rigged with a bowsprit. Running along the centre line from the bow is a small vertical knee which was formerly attached to a raised deck beam supported either side by two angled lodging knees (damaged and missing). There is a small square hatch with a coambing and just aft of that is a larger raised coambing where the single mast is stepped through and the main cargo hatch is located. Moving aft of that are two square cargo hatches with coambings and on the starboard side of the stern is an angled square davit with sheaves used for raising and lowering fishing equipment and pots. Running along the edge of the deck are a series of 12 angled knees between which are scuppers to relieve the deck of water. At the stern on each quarter are two small rounded bollards between which the gunwale capping has been notched and a small deck just forward of the stern post has a square hole to receive possibly another mast.
