Service vessel; Boat; Japanese

Scale: Unknown. A model of a small Japanese vessel made entirely in wood, parts of which are painted black. The model has been delicately made and is rigged with a single square sail made of silk which has a single wide, horizontal navy blue stripe. There is a stern cabin, open at the front and sides with a straw roof and blue and white striped blinds. A blue and white pannant is flying from the starboard quarter. A second cabin with a pitched roof, also made of straw, sits directly in front of the stern cabin. The model illustrates the 'Yamato-gata' frameless plank-built style of construction, with a very broad keel plank, scarfed to an after-keel plank and an inner and outer stem post.
