Cargo vessel; Pole Junk; Foochow
Scale: Unknown. A model of a Foochow pole junk made entirely in wood with metal fittings. The hull has been brightly painted in white on the rubbings strakes and on the waterline, yellow above and with black painted panels within red frames, the black panels having white and red painted squares within them. The is an oculus on the port and starboard bows, with a creature's face painted on the flat bow and an intricately painted phoenix on the stern. The bow is flat and beneath the painted face is a decorative paint scheme in red, yellow, black and white. The stern has two square port holes and the port and starboard halves of the stern face inward to form a rudder well. The rudder is segmented and painted white. There are two windlasses close to each other that extend the entire width of the vessel, located on the main deck. The foredeck has four hatch covers in line all removable. The main deck has provision for a mast though the mast itself is either missing or not included. The main deck has seven hatch covers, six of which are removable. There is an enclosed area on the port side of the main deck, whose roof is painted yellow ohre which has a possible provision for cooking. There are two further removable hatch covers on the aft deck and a raised deck provides access to the deck below. The raised deck has two extensions that extend on both the port and starboard sides, painted red with black panels and there are two quarter galleries, also painted red on the port and starboard stern quarters. The model is displayed on two short rectangular supports on a wooden rectangular base board, with bevelled edges, grained to resemble walnut. On paper label on right of base board "2".
