Fid

Setting fid. Rigger's or sailmaker's tool. A setting fid (usually with a heavy metal band round its base so that it would stand steady on the loft floor when working cringles). Dark coloured wood with rounded point and a metal hoop around the top. A large chip of wood is missing from the base end. Union Castle Line.
