Fishing vessel
Scale: 1:72. A full hull model of a Japanese inshore fishing vessel (made circa 1955), of a type used in the Mela Head district of Yedo Bay, made entirely in wood with metal and organic material fittings. The depicted vessel is two-masted with both masts removed and sails and rigging furled. The flat-bottomed pine hull has two wide strakes, copper-fastened either side. The cross beams at the bulkheads extend through to the sheer strake and act as thole pin locations for large oars. There is a rigged mainmast aft with a square sail in seven cloths laced vertically and a foremast with the foresail in four cloths. Matting is woven over the gunwales, indicating that the boat depicts a net fishing boat. Fittings and equipment includes an anchor, box, cooking stove, steering oar, water tank and two spears.
