gauge, marking
Marking gauge. Factory-made, probably in beech. Fence sliding on stem, carrying a pointed steel spur at one end, the head fixed by a wedge. Marking guages are used for marking lines parallel to the face, side or edge when planing workpieces to size and for marking similar lines before cutting rebates, joints etc.
