Cargo vessel; Pole junk

Scale: Unknown. A model of a Foochow pole junk made entirely in wood with metal and organic material fittings. The hull has been carved and ornately decorated. The hull below the upper wale is gloss black, while the wale itself is white. Above it, on a light blue ground on the starboard side, is a colourful scene depicting a phoenix, or peacock, stylised clouds, and chrysanthemums. The upper port side depicts on a blue ground a dragon, stylised clouds, and a Chinese character in a roundel.

There are two hatches on the foredeck, with covers and a further two on the upper deck, with all the covers painted bright green. There are also two deck-mounted swivel guns on the foredeck, two on the upper deck and a fifth gun on the poop deck. All the decks are painted brown with red inboards. The Upper and poop decks have decoratively carved rails, also painted red.

There is a bluff-ended boat, painted red and green, rigged to stern davits. There are three masts, all rigged with gaff sails made from single pieces of red-brown material. The foremast is canted forward, the mainmast has a red-painted decorative top, or lightning conductor, while the mizzen mast is much smaller in height and diameter and is positioned at the starboard hind quarter on the poop deck. Other fittings include a windlass with a stocked anchor attached to it. The model is displayed on a pair of decoratively carved crutches connected by a pair of decorative bars, all painted red.
