Cargo vessel; Fembøring

Scale: 1:6. A model of a Norwegian Fembøring made entirely in wood and stained a uniform dark brown colour. The hull is built plank-on-frame, is wide in the beam, shallow draughted, and has a deep keel. The hull shape is typical of this type of craft and the bow and stern are sharp ended with slightly curved stern and stemposts. The planks of the hull are wide and secured to the frame with oversize iron fastenings and the hull has been clinker built. Just behind the high stempost is an ornamentally carved piece of wood and above it a pair of single blocks. There are four thwarts and between them three cross pieces, the middle cross piece has a hole in the middle for the mast. There are five strakes on the port and starboard sides in a symmetrical arrangement and all the strakes have rope hoops. The rudder is worked with a single arm yoke and a long, slender tiller rigged to the starboard side. All of the floorboards in the bottom of the model are removable. Equipment includes a bailer, 10 oars, a four armed grapnel, a mast, yard, and a single rectangular sail. The model also has a quantity of pebbles or stones and a bundle of twigs.
