Flincher. A chiv-like tool with a fixed blade which cuts a deep slope of the top end chime of a herring barrel so that the head will fit more easily. Curved block of wood supporting a curved plane with the blade set on one side facing outwards, Blade kept in place by a wooden wedge. Cooper' tool. Blade and two wedges are loose.
