Passenger vessel; Gondola

Scale: 1:12. A model of a Venetian gondola (circa 1900), made entirely in wood with organic material fittings and painted black. The hull is constructed of thin wood sheet on frame, including the traditional bend to the starboard keel. The model has a removable cabin amidships, covered with black felt and black decorative tassels, sliding windows on both sides and an entry port. Inside the cabin are two chairs. The forward bulkhead of the cabin and interior are elaborately decorated, including embossed silver and gold foils. A piece of textile covers the cabin floor and external seat. Other fittings include a traditional ornate stem post finial and provision for a steering oar over the starboard stern quarter. On plaque ‘A Venetian Gondola’.
