Fishing vessel; Curragh, Rosses type
Scale: 1:12. A model of a Donegal Rosses type curragh, made using identical materials and techniques as the original vessel, circa 1840. The frame is made from hazel withies and covered with a black tarred canvas skin. The hull is straight sided with a round bow and a flat stern beyond which the gunwales extend. The gunwales are reinforced at the bow end. There are two pairs of thole pins mounted on rectangular blocks on the port and starboard gunwales, approximately amidships. The model is equipped with a wooden thwart, one side of which is painted green, and a pair of unpainted and unvarnished wooden oars, one of which has a metal strip around its blade.
