Cargo vessel; Pechili trader

Scale: unknown. A model of a Pechili trader made entirely in wood with metal and organic material fittings. The model is unpainted and varnished a uniform golden brown finish, with the exception of the masts which are a mahogany brown finish. The hull is flat-bottomed and curves upwards at the bow and stern. There are four wales running the entire length of the port and starboard broadsides, with no gaps between them. The uppermost wale is heavier and wider than the rest. The bow is flat and raked at an angle of about 45 degrees and the gunwales overlap it slightly. The model is five-masted, with lug-rigged sails set on all masts. All the sails are battened and made from sand-coloured cotton. The foremast is raked forward so that the sail considerably overhangs the bow. The two "mainmasts" are positioned just forward of amidships and have tabernacles. The larger of the two mainmasts is vertical and has a red and green painted square pole attached to the top of it (as does the second mainmast). On top of the larger mainmast is a lightning conductor and red pennant. The sails on the two "mainmasts" are each made in two pieces, stitched together with vertical joins down the centre of the sails. There are two mizzen masts on the poop deck, both with red and green painted square poles at the top with the forward mizzen having a lightning conductor and red pennant. The cabin is located at the stern with an entry port and two square portholes in the forward bulkhead. The poop has a turtle deck, a taff rail on three sides of it and a deep rudder well that accommodates the rudderpost and tiller. The model is equipped with six hatch covers on the maindeck, a metal stocked anchor, two boathooks, gangplank, lantern and a steering oar. The model is displayed on a pair of decoratively shaped crutches, connected by a piece of dowel rod.
