HMS 'Orion' and 'Euryalus'

A woolwork picture depicting two warships in full sail, off a coast with a small lighthouse, both vessels wear the White Ensign. The title 'HMSS Orion & Euryalus' is embroidered on a red strip below. The sea is striped with an attempt at perspective and the sky is faded to a cream colour. The picture is embroidered in long and short stitch with the rigging in button thread. HMS 'Orion' was a screw second rate of 90 guns built in 1854 at Chatham and broken up in 1867. HMS 'Euryalus' was a wood steam frigate built at Chatham in 1853 and also sold for breaking up in 1867. These two vessels were on different stations except during 1855 when they both took part in the second Baltic campaign. The picture is mounted in an Oxford frame.
