Sampler
A mourning sampler framed in oak. Worked in various techniques of cross stitch, satin stitch and long and short stitch in green and yellow silks. The design is of two large flower sprays with the maker's name between them: 'MARY GILL Born 7th August 1794'. Below is an urn on a plinth with the stitched inscription: 'SACRED to the Memory of NELSON Slain 21st Octr 1805'. 'Dudley 1808'. The sampler is edged with a scrolling acorn border.
