Dry card compass

Bowl-Copper, card chamber occupies 1/3 of depth of bowl 2.15" (5.4cm). Outer lower portion carries two racks and guide rods which carry heavy ring which can be varied in height. Mounted on brass stem by ball and socket joint allowing bowl to oscillate. the stem is hollow and fitted with strong adjustable spring to support weight of bowl. Lubber point is carried on upper end of pendulum which is mounted on wooden pillar attached to stand. Point projects inwards over face of bowl.
Card-Mica, covered with paper skeleton graduated to 32 points. Underside has wax balancing blobs.
Needle-Very light elliptical shape, Brass, cross struts holding jewelled pivot cap. 7.25" (19.7cm) long
Pivot-Steel pivot in brass mounting secured to base of card chamber.
