Furnishing fabric
Calico fabric commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805), plate-printed in brown and red. The design features a series of images including the death of Nelson, with the fatal shot fired (incorrectly) from the 'Santissima Trindad', Britannia in mourning, and the funeral procession on the Thames and toward St Paul’s. Each scene is divided by a border of oak leaves.
The images of the shallop and funeral car are taken from a series of aquatints published by Ackermann in January 1806. This piece of material was made into a cushion cover and still has its original border of printed yellow and black glazed linen fabric.
