fabric, wall-hanging
Printed linen fabric commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). Plate or roller-printed in brown, red and blue with repeat pattern of four scenes of Nelson's death and funeral bordered individually in oak leaf sprays. Sewn onto linen with a brocade strip at top. The scenes are: Nelson collapsing on deck of VICTORY, including the sharpshooter from SANTISSIMA TRINIDADA, the funeral barge, Britannia mourning beneath an oak tree, and the funeral carriage. The shallop and funeral car are taken from a series of aquatints, published by Ackermann, Jan 1806.
