Walking stick
A walking stick with a bone handle carved with studs, a metal ferrule and collar. The stick is decorated with naval scenes drawn in ink and varnished over as follows: Nelson's coat of arms, 'Ben Brace', 'The Victory', an anchor, 'Blackbeard the Pirate', 'The Lion' (a ship), 'Capt Falkner', 'The Blenheim' (a ship), 'The death of Nelson', 'Adm De Winter delivering up his sd to Adm Duncan', The Mediator' (a ship), 'Homeward Bound' (a sailor). A perforation for a cord near the handle with a brass mount. The item dates from after the publication of 'Ben Brace, the last of Nelson's Agamemnon's' by Frederick Chamier (London, 1836).
