Dry card compass
Bowl-Skeleton brass bowl lined with glass. Heavily weighted at base. Black lubber line on inside of bowl. Set in brass gimbal ring. Milled verge ring.
Card- Mica covered with paper. Black with white markings graduated to 1/4 points. Has inner graduations circle. This is graduated both quadrantally in degrees and to 360 degs. Dia. 7.5" (19cm). Wax balancing blob on underside.
Needle-Four edge bar needles, fitted on frame which is attached midway down pivot rod by brass gimbals. Lengths: 2 x 6.5" (16.8cm), 2 x 5.5" (14cm) Width: 4 x 1.5" (3.9cm)
Pivot-Made of speculum metal set in brass cone attached to base of bowl. Upper end of pivot rod is steadied by brass cup attached to frame fitted into upper part of bowl, also marked with lubber line.
