Dry card compass

Bowl-Copper with brass ring at top. Set in complicated gimbal arrangement which has very large lead weight at bottom. Two crude lubber lines marked on inside.
Card- Mica covered with paper. Black with white markings graduated to 1/4 points. This is graduated both quadrantally in degrees and to 360 degs. Dia. 6.15" (15.5cm) Has a crown decoration. Jewelled pivot cap at centre.
Needle-Flat bar type, length 6.1" (15.4cm). Sliding brass weights. Brass cross struts also with sliding brass weight. Both pierced to accommodate passage of pivot spike to pivot cap.
Pivot-Steel pivot spike set in brass mount attached to base by capstan screw arrangement.
Mounted on ACO stand 12.25" (31.2cm) square O.A.Height 9" (22.9cm)
