Dry card compass

Bowl-Black painted brass with electrical socket at side and a thin wire attached to nut at centre of base. Inside of bowl painted white with a black painted lubber line. A heavy black painted lead weight is attached at bottom. Two milled headed studs, capable of being revolved, are fitted in a hole in centre of verge glass. Below the glass, each carries a short pointer, from each of which hangs a platinum rod 1" long. On the centre of the card, a pointer is fitted at such a height as to bring it in contact with the platinum rods. A copper conductor rod is fitted which connects the studs at centre of verge glass to the brass verge ring. Mounted in a brass gimbal ring.
Card-Dia. 7" (17.8cm) Mica covered with paper, white with black markings, graduated to 1/4 points, has decorated N&E points.
Needle-Two edge bar needles 5" (12.7cm) long, are mounted 2.75" (7cm) apart on a light black painted brass framework of three struts, the centre strut has an expanded centre through which the pivot cup is screwed.
Pivot-Brass cone-shaped pivot cup with white metal bearing screwed through card and needle carrying framework, and carries at its top the pointer which makes contact with the mechanism carried at centre of verge glass. The pivot point is brass and carried on a brass stem secured to base of bowl 8.75" (22.2cm) dia.
Wooden case-Fitted with a gimbal ring locking mechanism, an electric bell in lid, and two batteries in a separate compartment. dims 14 x 11.5 x 8.75" (35.6 x 29.2 x 22.2cm)
