Fabric square
A cambric square cut round the edges to form a saw-tooth shape, finished in button hole stitch. Border of embroidered flower heads and leaves, the centres of the flowers and leaves worked in eyelet stitch. Different motifs worked in each corner - a parrot, peacock, quiver of arrows and posthorn also the initials 'FHN'. Said to have been embroidered by Lady Frances Nelson, First Viscountess Nelson d. 1831. In fact a type of whitework embroidery made in and exported from India.
