Royal coat of arms (reversed) from Prince Frederick's barge, 1732
Painted royal coat of arms, on silk with a paper and canvas backing mounted on a wooden frame, the design reversed. From Prince Frederick's barge 1732. Subject to documentary confirmation this is apparently the silk ceiling centrepiece from the cabin of Prince Frederick's barge, replaced with a modern replica at the end of its conservation in 1974-76. NMM file J9/005 covers the replacement, which also replicated the reversal of the pattern. Whether this item is from 1732 or itself a Victorian replacement has not been determined, given that the barge is known to have undergone at least two refurbishments from 1842 to 1863. [PvdM 3/12]
