Royal Naval uniform: pattern 1748
Black felt tricorne hat lined with black glazed cotton. Except at the back, the outside of the edge is bound with 5/8 in gold lace with scalloped edge. The outside of the back and the inside all the way round is bound with 3/4 in lace of naval pattern and this lace is also used for the loop, which is secured by a domed button and retains a cockade.
