Royal Naval uniform: pattern 1795-1812
Vice-Admiral's uniform belonging to Lord Nelson. See subject authority for uniform regulations. Navy raised wool fabric. Front, tails and collar lined with cream, twill woven silk. Left sleeve lined with black twill woven silk, right is unlined. Lapels button back with nine gilt buttons each side (foul anchor and laurels. Epaulettes attached by gilt buttons, eyelet holes and straps. Decorative buttonholes on lapels and three pointed pocket flaps which have three buttons underneath. Pockets close with inner flap secured by fabric covered button. Two bands of lace on cuffs which have decorative button holes. Four embroidered orders of chivalry stitched to left breast. Edges of coat cut not hemmed. There is a centre vent in back of coat skirts with pleats on either side. Three buttons on each pleat.
