Royal Naval uniform: pattern 1795-1812
Vice-admiral's undress coat belonging to Lord Nelson. Blue cloth tail coat. Double breasted with nine gilt buttons on each lapel. Two rows of gold lace on each sleeve with three buttons between. Three buttons below each pocket flap. Two buttons on the pleat of each skirt. Narrow band of wool cloth and two eyelet holes on shoulders for the attachment of epaulettes. Coat fastened edge to edge with three hooks and eyes. Four embroidered stars of Nelson's orders sewn to the left hand front of the coat- Order of the Bath, Order of St Ferdinand and Merit, Order of the Crescent, Order of San Joachim.
