Royal Naval uniform: pattern 1795
Epaulette of a Vice-Admiral worn by Lord Nelson (1758-1805) at the battle of Trafalgar. The epaulette is of wide gold lace mounted over card or sheet metal. One of the two stars is missing and the other is worked in silver metal thread and spangles. The epaulette is edge with 20 three inch long bullions in outer row and ten in the second, inner row. The underside of the epaulette is partially padded and covered with yellow silk. Displayed on uniform UNI0024.
