Dry card compass
A 10” Kelvin-type light dry card compass with the card inscribed “Wilson Gillie” and “John Lilley & Son, London & N Shields”. The card is graduated to 360° with a second, inner, circle of degrees within the points.
The suspension is unusual. The bowl pivots hang in links from an outer ring, made in two parts hinged together, and tend to open these halves of it against the pull of two helical springs. The outer ring hangs from two large links.
The glass has the usual dimple in a brass disc for the pivot of a Kelvin-type azimuth mirror.
