Royal Naval uniform: pattern 1830-43
This full dress coat, which belonged to Commander James Robertson Walker (1783–1858), is of the pattern in use between 1830 and 1843. It features the red collar and cuffs introduced into Royal Naval regulations by King William IV. The sleeves are more loosely gathered than in the 1820s, and, while the chest is still padded for a rounder shape, the sleeves and cuffs do not fit as tightly as those worn in the previous decade.
