Non-regulation folding cap
An example of non-regulation clothing worn in undress. This accordion fold cap, the ribs of which are wire covered with a black lacquered canvas, is of blue wool with a black leather brim. The cap would collapse and was secured by means of a resin or gutta percha button fastened in the centre of an extending cap band. There are two resin or gutta percha buttons on either side of the brim to secure the cap band and cap in a flat position. When the cap is unfolded, the cap band slides back to conceal these buttons. Under both buttons are long silk ribbons that would have secured the cap under the chin.
