Royal Naval uniform: pattern 1856
Pair of full dress trousers worn by Admiral Sir Francis Leopold McClintock KCB (1819-1907). The trousers are of blue wool and the waistband is of black silk. There is a wool gusset that is partially lined with black silk at the back to adjust the fit. They have a fly front with five lacquered metal button fastenings. There are also four buttons in the waistband for braces and four buttons at the bottom of each leg for a strap that would fit across the instep. Rank is indicated by the 1 5/8 inch bands of gold lace that are just to the front of the side seams on each leg.
