Royal Naval uniform: pattern 1856
This full dress coat of assistant surgeon N. Moysey is made of blue wool, while the tails, collar and slash on the mariner’s cuff are faced with white wool. His rank is indicated by the single row of nine gilt brass buttons grouped in threes, and the extremely narrow band of gold distinction lace on his cuff. A further indication of his rank can be seen on the back of the coat, where the hip buttons are not outlined with gold lace and there are narrow gold lace bands on his three-point pocket flap.
