Royal Naval uniform: pattern 1856
Black wool peaked cap with wool cap band with foliate scroll pattern and scalloped edge. There is an eight lobed design made from applied mohair braid on the top of the cap.
The cap’s visor is made of card faced with black leather (green on the under side) with black leather binding on the edge of the visor and a brown leather chin strap attached. The visor is in poor condition.
On the interior of the cap there is a brown leather hat band and red silk lining with the maker’s details stamped in gold ‘HENRY HART / ARMY CLOTHIER / 26 PALL MALL’.
There is evidence of past pest damage on the peak of the cap.
