Dry card compass

Bowl-Painted brass. Glazed. Has two spirit levels set in base. Front and back sights with tripod holder at base.
Card-Mica. Comprising thin circular strip with graduated green paper and two semi-circular arcs. The rest is hollow. Graduations in degrees to 360. Jewelled pivot cap at centre.
Sights-Front is hollow arch with wire and adjustable glazed frame. Operates stop mechanism when closed down. Back is fixed prism with peephole and slit.
Tripod-Brass. Has four levelling screws set between two platforms. Length 7" (17.9cm).

It ismarked with Hyrographic number, H44. The sextant was sent to Richard Owen in the Caribbean in 1831.
