Dry card compass - surveying
Bowl: Copper varnished. Has sights attached. Black inside. Stop mechanism operated by brass push bar that lifts card off pivot. Glazed (glass cracked) centre brass and bone stud. Three brass stud legs on base.
Card: Thin brass hoop graduated in degrees quadrantally. Diameter 6" (15.2 cm)
Needle: Two parallel flat bar needles held to centre by X frame. Four brass weights radiate from brass jewelled pivot cap. Length 6" (15.2 cm)
Pivot: Brass spike in pillar and cup mechanism.
Sights: Back: fixed prism with peephole and slit. Two filters. Front: fixed open arch and wire with hinged jet reflector.
