Dry card compass - surveying

Bowl: Brass with white metal inside. Has two spirit levels with adjustable screws underneath. Has two scales graduated one quadrantally and one to 360 degrees. Has vernier. Stop mechanism lever on underside of bowl. Bowl fixed to ball joint for tripod use.

Needle: Bar needle with jewelled pivot cap at centre. Length of needle 4.25" (10.8 cm)

Pivot: Unsighted.

Sights: Front and back sights set on gimbal both hollow arch and slit. Back has peephole, front has hole with cross wires.

Gimbal ring: Has semi-circle arc graduated quadrantally and has radial arm with arrow. This is for telling angle of elevation and deflection.

Tripod: Wood and brass with ball joint receiver. Length 31" (78.8 cm)

O.A. Height of bowl 11" (12.9 cm)
