Royal Naval uniform: pattern 1901

Cadet’s single-breasted morning waistcoat of blue wool belonging to H.F. Luxmoore.

The waistcoat is single-breasted and made of blue wool with six gilt brass button fastenings (button pattern: rope twist outer border with a raised inner border, matte ground with raised anchor below a crown). It has three exterior pockets two at the bottom on either side and one on the upper left hand side. The interior is lined with heavy cream wool with a dark blue windowpane check pattern. There is a name tape at the top, just below the collar with the name 'H.F. LUXMOORE H56'. The back belt is of black cotton twill with a black lacquered two-pronged buckle.

According to the regulations of 1891, all officers, including cadets were to wear a morning waistcoat of 'blue cloth, single breasted, with 6 buttons.' Evening waistcoats were cut much lower with four buttons and edged with gold braid. An alternative evening waistcoat was of white marcella.
