Liquid compass and binnacle
Bowl: Dia: 9.75" (24.8cm) Grey painted brass, two filler plugs at side, expansion chamber incorporated with glazed bottom of bowl. Grey painted brass verge ring is graduated 0 - 180 - 180 - 0 degrees. Inside of bowl painted white with a black wire lubber line projecting from side. Mounted in a grey painted gimbal ring 12.0" (30.5cm) dia.
Card: Dia: 6.5" (16.5cm) White mica with black markings, graduated to 32 points and quadrantally in degrees with a second set of mirror image graduations for use with the azimuth circle. Attached to a black painted float at centre.
Needle: Unsightede.
Pivot: Unsighted.
Azimuth Mirror: Is of the "Kelvin type" with 'arrow up' & 'arrow down'.
Binnacle: Dia: 16.0" (40.6cm) 'Kelvin type'. Wooden pedestal with grey painted brass fittings. Fitted with sphere brackets and spheres. Clinometer; Flinders Bar 24.5" (62.2cm) long, and one correction coil. Two wooden doors in the binnacle give access to fore-and-aft and athwartship corrector magnets carried on vertical chains running over sprockets. A 'bucket' for the vertical magnets is carried on a chain. Hood: Grey painted brass has a sliding shutter on one side; a smaller one on the fore side; two flaps, one fittede with a glass face, and the other a cover flap with a peep hole provided with sliding shutters; and a circular glass window on the top, provided with a brass cover.
