Liquid compass and binnacle

Bowl: Dia 8.25" (21.0 cm) Grey painted brass, two filler plugs at side, two expansion chambers at side and an expansion chamber at base incorporated with glazed bottom of bowl. Inside of bowl painted white with a black wire lubber pointer projecting from side. Mounted in a grey painted brass gimbal ring 9.5" (24.1 cm) diameter.
Card: Dia 6.0" (15.2 cm) White painted mica with black markings, graduated to 32 points and quadrantally in degrees with a second set of mirror graduations for use with azimuth mirror. Attached to a white painted float at centre.
Needle: Two needles of circular section mounted below card.
Pivot: Pivot stem, secured at centre of bridge secured at bottom of bowl, engages in a jewelled pivot cap at centre of float.
Azimuth circle: Dia 8.25" (21.0 cm) 'Large Prism Type' Grey painted brass circle with a large prism, dark glass reflector, two dark shades mounted on one side, on the opposite side is a balancing weight.
Binnacle: 'Kelvin Type' Wood with brass fittings. Dia at base 17.0" (43.2 cm). dia at top 11.5" (29.2 cm). Fitted with sphere brackets with spheres, a brass shutter giving access to electric lamp fitting, two wooden doors giving access to the fore-and-aft and athwartship corrector magnet racks and the bucket containing the vertical corrector magnets. Hood fitted with an oval glazed aperture with lid and shutters and a glazed slit with sliding shutter on sides, a round glazed aperture with brass cover at top and an oil lamp bracket at side (lamp missing).
